It’s hard to follow what’s going on at City Hall. We do it for you.
There are more than 25,000 elected municipal officials in Canada, compared to 757 elected provincial and territorial officials and 308 elected federal officials. Large municipalities such as Calgary, Toronto, and Vancouver have larger populations than many provinces. Despite this, the democratic needs of municipal government in Canada has received much less academic, media, and public attention than deserved.
The Manning Foundation for Democratic Education wants to engage Calgarians on municipal issues and government. Do you know what your City Councillor is doing?
The Manning Foundation directs charitable dollars into publicly available research and education to strengthen the basic building blocks of democracy – ideas, education, mentorship and communications – to ensure that anyone who chooses to play an active role in politics is adequately prepared to do so.
